5 WordPress Plug-Ins To Install From Day 1

by Russ Henneberry

Every WordPress blog is different but there are a few plug-ins that I have found useful on every site regardless of the content.  These 5 WordPress plug-ins are must-haves from the first day your website goes live.

Google Analyticator

This plug-in is an easy way to get a good, free analytics package on your WordPress blog.  All you need is the UA code from your Google Analytics set up and you are off and running with the best, free analytics package available.

All-In-One SEO Pack

If you want any search engine traffic, you need to install the All-In-One SEO pack.  This plug-in will allow you to type unique title tags and meta descriptions for each of your blog posts.  This is a must have for search engine success.

WP – DB Back-up

Hmmmm… your WordPress database is corrupt and you lost all of your posts since 2006.  No problem, the WP Database Back-up will email you a copy of your database on any schedule you like.  If you have a catastrophe you can have your data replaced.

Akismet

Spammers are absolutely ruthless.  Blogging would not be feasible without a plug-in like Akismet.  Akismet will snag 99% of the spammy comments that are put on your blog and if you don’t think it is a problem, just try running a WordPress blog without it.

XML Sitemaps

A sitemap is critical for ensuring that the search engines crawl your site deeply and consistently.  The XML Sitemap plug-in will update your sitemap automatically and submit it to search engines.  It’s a beautiful thing.
