What will motivate you to keep going?
Can you recognize and find inspiration and hope in small wins? Incremental gains?
I hope so.
Perhaps you are at the beginning of your climb and you are staring at the sheer cliff wall. And you are frightened. Or excited and anxious.
Take the first step. Begin your climb. Look for a quick win and extract all the motivation you can from this win.
Perhaps you are smack dab in the middle of your climb. You have made some gains. You have made some mistakes. This is what it is all about. If (and when) you make it, you will remember this climb with a smile. You will know that you accomplished something extraordinary.
No question — reaching the top is the goal. But, when it is all said and done, it is about the climb.
How do you feel about this? For you — is it about the climb or reaching the top?

Hey Russ, Great post…and I know for me I am “dual-person”, I have a competitive edge so, I like the win… but truth be told, the Climb, by far is the real ride. I have found that while I climb I am unaware that there is any elevation changes…it’s when I look back a day, a week, month, year..that the VIEW becomes Spectacular!!
@jennifer — I agree 100% Jennifer. It is very difficult to notice elevation gain when you are right in the midst of it. Sometimes I have to stop and force myself to see the gains. This is an important factor in keeping myself motivated.
I think that the climb is something everyone has to go thru unless you’ve been born with a silver spoon. Frankly, no pain no gain motto fits as a proper response to this post.
I’m happy to see that there is encouragement. Once again, very well put!
Ivan
Thanks Ivan. Absolutely — no pain, no gain and I hope you enjoy the pain.
Russ,
Good post and got me thinking a bit. I guess for me I’m still at base camp trying to get acclimated to the climate an altitude. I am just starting out with my small business.
I do know enough about myself to realize its all about the climb. I get so wrapped up in a goal its hard for me to do anything else, which is good and bad. Once I get to the top, if I enjoyed the climb, or I did not climb the mountain as skillfully as I had hoped, I will climb again…
Kent
@Kent — great points — especially in terms of relating to being at base camp trying to get acclimated. However, I know that you have already taken a very important step in your climb. You have built your ecommerce store. Believe it or not — you are well on your way!
