FAQ’s for Video 1 – Hosting

Why do I need a hosting package? Think of hosting as another computer, somewhere else in the world that is housing the files for your blog.

How much is a hosting package? Hosting for the “Baby” plan with Host Gator is $9.95 per month if you pay monthly but you can get price breaks if you pay for more than one month at a time.

Why do you use Host Gator? I have been using Host Gator for my own domains and have found them to be a reliable, easy to use hosting company with good customer service.

What is a domain name? Think of a domain name as the street address for your blog or website,  when someone types your domain into the address bar of their Internet browser it will take them to your blog.

What should I register as a domain name? When you start a blog you could register the name of your business or your own name as I have done with russhenneberry.com.  Make it as short as possible, easy to spell, while still representing your business and/or brand.

I don’t see the Host Gator page from the video – what is going on? When you first sign up for your Host Gator hosting package it may take up to 48 hours for this page to appear.  However, it usually takes less than 1 hour.

FAQ’s For Video 3 – Design

How do I __________ (fill in the blank) with my design? This set of training videos is intended to get you started with a blog.  It is beyond the scope of these videos to discuss every design issue with every theme available in WordPress.  I should say that I am a big believer in (at the beginning) getting your design close to the way you like it and then starting to write.  If you get serious about your blog, you can hire a designer or invest the time to learn design yourself.

FAQ’s for Video 4 – Pages and Posts

What is the difference between a page and a post? Posts are the essence of your blog, they are individual articles that are published to your blog on a periodic basis with the latest post appearing at the top of your blogs home page.  Pages generally consist of static content and links to them are found in the top or side navigation.
