4 Ways To Get A Prospects Attention Using The Internet

by Russ Henneberry

networkWhen you are actively marketing yourself on the Internet using the methods I lay out in the Tiny Business, Mighty Profits eBook you will find that you can get the attention of others quite easily using the “hub and spokes” you have in place.

For those not in the know – the hub and spokes model (get the eBook!)  is the foundation of my Content Marketing strategy.  The strategy teaches that a blog (and a WordPress blog at that :) ) should be used as a hub from which you broadcast VALUABLE content to your target market.

The “spokes” are the means by which you are broadcasting your content using things like:

  • RSS
  • Email
  • Podcasting
  • Online Video
  • Downloadable White Papers/eBooks
  • etc, etc

Use Your Content To Get Attention

Say you attend a networking event and you spend some time talking with someone that would be perfect partner in a project you are undertaking.  Or you meet someone that would be a good customer for your products and services.  Or the person would be a good strategic ally because of their technical knowledge or the network of people they have grown.

Whatever the reason you want their attention, try some of these tactics to see if you can generate some good will and get their attention:

Use Your Blog -  Your blog can be a powerful tool and if the person you are interested in is relevant to your readers, writing a blog post that reviews their business, them personally, an event they were a part of, etc is a sure fire way to get them to sit up and take notice.

People appreciate the free press and know that you took some time out of your schedule to write about something they care about.

Send them an email after (or before) the post is published and ask them if you see any changes that need to be made — this will get the conversation started — and that could lead to a cup of coffee with your prospect.

Write For Them -  Is this person generating content of their own online or off-line?  If so, create something that they can easily use that would be useful for their target market.  Creating content is time consuming and your prospect will appreciate the gesture.

Introduce Them -  Take a few moments and go through your business contacts.  Is there someone that would be a good contact for your prospect?  Look to create a relationship between your prospect and someone else in your network — this will bring them one step closer to you.

Become A Follower – Friend them on Facebook.  Follow them on Twitter.  Sign up for their newsletter.  Attend their events.  Comment on their blog.  Find out what they are doing and become a follower of theirs — your prospect will then understand that you are interested in what they are doing.
