What Your Parents Taught You About Internet Marketing

by Russ Henneberry

parentsIf you recall, your parents told you that:

“You get what you pay for.”
“Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.”
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

So why do so many people buy into these GET RICH QUICK schemes on the Internet?

Don’t believe the hype!

There is no easy way to make money on the Internet.  It takes time, work and dedication — just like everything else in life.

You Get What You Pay For

Don’t get me wrong — high price does not always equal quality.  However, there are two different types of cost in business:

  • Money
  • Time

This is something that I stress with all of my Internet Marketing clients — it is either going to cost you time or money to gain more customers through the Internet.  You will need to spend the time learning the technologies, processes, systems, etiquette, etc or you will need to pay someone that knows these things already.

Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Doing Right

Internet Marketing is full of shortcuts and dangerous methods that can “microwave” your results.  You can buy links, spam blogs and forums, set up Twitter spamming bots, email thousands of people that didn’t opt-in to a list, and on and on.

But in the end — it is those that do it the right way that will survive long term.

What is the right way?  Hmmm… well…  what do your customers and prospects want to see on your website?  In your emails to them?  In your blog comments and forum posts?  In your Tweets?

Answer that question and then deliver that value in your Internet marketing efforts.

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is

There are literally hundreds of thousands of people making money online by telling you how to make money online.  Most of them have never choked a dime out of the web that wasn’t associated with telling you how to get rich using it.

Before you get out your credit card — ask yourself one question –

“Is this person providing any value or substance to the web or are they as thin as this mile-long sales page I am reading?”

Look for the marketers that are contributing valuable content to the web.  They have a blog, a podcast, a YouTube channel, an email list that sends valuable information, and they are contributing via Twitter and Facebook.

If they are worth their salt, they will have plenty of FREE content for you to consume before you pay them.

Let me end this post by saying this — if you find someone that has valuable FREE content on the web and their marketing message is relevant to your business — BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.

You will find that these marketers will provide remarkable value with their paid tools, reports and trainings.  There are good people on the web, but they aren’t the ones that are breaking every rule your parents taught you when you were young.
