What Should I Blog About?

by Russ Henneberry

questionI preach about the power of blogging — the power of adding valuable content to your website on a regular basis.

The #1 question I hear from my clients is “What should I write about?”

That’s easy… listen to your market — what kind of questions do you hear them asking?

Listen at Physical Meetings

When you are at trade shows, networking events and in sales situations with clients and prospects, listen for the questions and concerns your market has.

Now — answer those questions with your content.  Create a piece of content that easily answers that question or helps them overcome that concern.

Listen Online

Social media sites — especially Twitter — are great for eavesdropping on your target market.

Create a System

When you hear a good blog post idea you will need to have a system by which to capture that idea.  If you are like me — you can use your phone to email yourself or create a text/audio note.  If you don’t have a high-tech phone you will just need to carry a notepad or something to write it down.

Find something that works for you — you never know when a great blog post idea will come to you.  Finding good topics that will be relevant to your target market is half the battle.

Keep a large number of blog post ideas in the “funnel” to ensure that you don’t find yourself sitting at your computer trying to think of something to post that needs to go out that day.  This will lead to poor blog posts and increase the chances of you neglecting your blog altogether.

Get busy listening and when you hear a good question — take note of it — then answer it!
