TweetFirstly, it is critical that you watch at least part of the second video to see the woman explain why it is important to drive safely while she has a poodle sitting on top of her head.
Secondly, sometimes it just takes a real life example to illustrate a point.
I have said ad nauseum on my blog, in my Meet Up group and everywhere else that anyone will listen to me — that…..
“We only share that which we find valuable with our network.”
Which of these videos below would you be more likely to share with your network:
This first video is a prime example of a business trying to apply old marketing techniques to the Internet. She thinks that the Internet is the same as her television set. Sorry honey, I only watch commercials when they are wedged between two kick-butt scenes in Lost.
This next business owner is not only a master of animal husbandry but also of creating good content for the web. Content that (if we were so inclined) we would be proud to pass around the social web.
What are your thoughts? How do you go about ensuring that you create content that gels with the social web? How many miles do you think you could drive with a dog on top of your head?

I like the lady in the first video that preaches traditional marketing methods. There’s no way that I’ll ever do business with her company. Here’s why: Where’s the true value? You can talk all day along about how great your company is although you haven’t shown me anything. How about some testimonials? Facebook fan page? Twitter? Website? Where’s the content?
In the second video I’m truly impressed by this lady’s abilities. Maybe I should try juggling my beagle on my head and see how well I do. At the same time I’ll mention that I have 25 years experience working in the auto insurance industry and it’s perfectly safe to have my dog on my head while driving.
Great prime examples here of how traditional marketing simply doesn’t work. Let’s hope that these two don’t chase you down.
Thanks Misteerrr!
@Ivan — Isn’t that great? Driving with a poodle on your head while giving driving safety and insurance tips. Brilliant!
The 25 years of experience in the auto insurance industry did it for me really. Someone like that must have been a true asset to their employer especially with all the knowledge she gave me in that video about automobile insurance. I’m really moved with her expertise and industry insight. I’ll hire her as my agent! Yup, that’s it.
