I remember working at a very nice restaurant in Saint Louis when I was in High School.
The manager was always trying to detect which diners were food writers for the Post Dispatch or Riverfront Times.
“These people are important!” he would say. “Make sure their food is exquisite!” — [my manager liked to say the word 'exquisite.']
We knew what the food writers looked like and we knew who was important —- and who was just “Joe and Jane Diner.”
Increasingly, we are all becoming food writers. And movie critics. Curators of fine music and art. Reviewers of products and services.
Increasingly — we are all gaining the “power of the press.”
Word of mouth advertising has always been extremely important to business owners. Referrals are priceless.
As the Internet continues to place the power to publish, the power to vote, the power to critique in the hands of “Joe and Jane Diner” we all need to ensure that what we dish out to EVERY customer is ‘exquisite.’

You are 100% correct, Russ!
I’m a fan of YELP, Travel Advisor, Consumer Reports and the Better Business Bureau.
You NEVER know which person you’re talking to or doing business with is that IMPORTANT person.
In fact, they are ALL IMPORTANT.
Have the mindset they all have the words ‘I’M IMPORTANT’ written across their forehead.
@Fred Miller — It certainly has gotten that way. Certainly everyone was important before YELP, Travel Advisor, etc — but now I think we are all getting the power to curate and review the companies we do business with.
It is a good thing for everyone except those that are not providing value.
