I don’t play golf. I plan to start when I am 40. Which, unfortunately, isn’t too far off.
But, I do play on Twitter.
Rarely do I come out in favor of any particular Internet marketing tactic, but in this case there is a clear connection between Twitter and other sales techniques, like hitting the golf course.
My uncle has been in sales for decades. I once asked him what he does when he is trying to get a meeting/sale/partnership/whatever with a difficult person with which to get some face-time.
Sage advice…
“I get them on the golf course. I get a couple drinks in them in the club house and the next thing you know — we’re talking business.”
People talk business at pubs, church committees and at their 4 year old’s tee-ball game.
We just aren’t as aggressive as we are at a formal sales presentation.
We don’t whip out a price sheet at a BBQ.
We talk… we share… we get to know each other… we hang out… we are “SOCIAL.”
And Twitter is the closest thing to the 18th hole you are going to find right now on the Internet.
