Social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are powerful business tools.
But you have to be careful or you will find yourself tweeting, linking in and facebooking all day long and never producing any revenue.
Social media sites are like networking events — you don’t want to spend all day, every day networking. At some point you have got to get some work done.
Just like anything else — you need to set up processes and leverage tools when they are available to get the most ROI out of your time spent with social media. Tools like Hootsuite.
HootSuite Rocks As A Social Media Tool
Here’s why — refer to the image below:
- HootSuite is web based — which means you can access it from any computer
- Easy window to manage your status updates
- Schedule your status updates to go out later
- Manage multiple Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts
- Built in URL shortener
- Tabs let you easily switch Social Media sites
- Multiple columns for a full view of each social media stream
- View video without leaving your Hootsuite page
One thing that I didn’t point out with a number that is SUPER COOL is that Hootsuite allows you to see “conversations” within Twitter — which is great because (let’s face it) sometimes Twitter looks like a big jumbled mess.
What tools do you use to manage your social media? What advantages/disadvantages do they have?

It’s a great tool as long as the Twitter API doesn’t fail. Something that tends to happen at least a few times in the course of a 24 hour period.
Other than it’s a great tool to network with if used properly.
@Ivan Temelkov — Thanks for your take Ivan — yes — the API does fail once in a while but it isn’t a rampant problem IMO.
Hi Russ!
Thank you for blogging about HootSuite. Just to let you know our Barn Owl release added *more* cool features to HootSuite!

Features include:
* People management
* Draft tweets
* Custom URL parameters
* Export stats to PDF and CSV
* LinkedIn commenting
And we’re not finished. More awesome features are coming through the pipes.
Chris,
HootSuite’s Ambassador of Happiness
@Chris — Awesome Chris — it is already awesome and you are making it awesomer.
Hey Russ…I just found Hootsuite myself a few weeks ago and I have jumped in and not looked back at any other tool for Twitter since.
For someone trying to build a brand…the automatic posting of tweets is a killer feature.
Now if I could just figure out a way – or get them to add a feature – that would allow me to copy pending tweets.

@Greg Bussmann — Not sure exactly what you mean by that feature you are speaking about — Hootsuite is super cool and they keep adding features.
